Ecolibrium3 cut the ribbon today on a new technology lab in Lincoln Park, giving residents a place to access computers and digital tools at no cost. The facility expands on computer classes that members of AARP's Senior Planet program have been teaching in the neighborhood, turning those lessons into a permanent space where people can practice their skills and get help.
The lab is designed to serve residents who may not have reliable internet or a working computer at home. Visitors can use the equipment for job searches, online applications, email, video calls and other everyday tasks that increasingly require a digital connection. Staff and volunteers will be on hand to answer questions and guide first-time users through the basics.
Organizers say the project grew out of a clear demand. Senior Planet classes kept filling up, and many participants asked where they could continue learning once the sessions ended. The new lab answers that question by offering open hours alongside scheduled workshops.
Community members described the space as a welcome addition to Lincoln Park, where access to technology varies widely from household to household. The lab aims to close some of that gap by removing cost as a barrier.
Details on hours and how to sign up for introductory sessions are available at the lab. Residents of all ages and experience levels are welcome to stop by.
