AI is creating America’s next underclass

AI is creating America’s next underclass

Jensen Huang, the chief executive of Nvidia, has issued a stark warning about the social consequences of artificial intelligence. Speaking at a recent event, Huang argued that AI is not just reshaping industries but is fundamentally altering the rules of everyday survival. He described a future where society splits into a rigid two-tier caste system: those who can command AI and those who cannot.

According to Huang, the gap between these two groups will widen rapidly. People who learn to interact with, direct, and leverage AI tools will gain a massive advantage in productivity, career opportunities, and problem-solving. Meanwhile, those who refuse to adapt or lack access to training will find themselves locked out of the modern economy. He did not mince words, stating that this group will be left behind, forming a new underclass with limited mobility and shrinking options.

The warning comes as AI tools become more powerful and accessible, from generative text and image models to automated coding assistants. Huang emphasized that the danger is not the technology itself, but the uneven distribution of skill and opportunity. He urged governments, educators, and companies to invest heavily in AI literacy and retraining programs. Without such efforts, he suggested, the divide will harden into a permanent social structure, one where the ability to talk to a machine determines a person's entire future. The message is clear: adapt now, or risk being left out entirely.
