Seniors aged 55 and older in Fayetteville will have new chances to build their digital skills through the Senior Technology Literacy Series. The program, run by Fayetteville-Cumberland Parks and Recreation, aims to help older adults navigate today's digital world, stay in touch with family and friends, and protect themselves online.
Members of the Fayetteville-Cumberland Youth Council and the city's Information Technology Department will lead the hands-on classes. The sessions take place at the Bill Crisp Senior Center and Senior Center East. This setup creates a chance for intergenerational learning, with young leaders sharing their tech knowledge while helping seniors gain confidence with everyday tools.
The program covers how to safely use devices, manage online accounts, spot scams, and move through digital platforms. Organizers say these skills help seniors stay independent, informed, and safe.
The first class, called Navigating Social Media and Smartphones, is set for Thursday, June 11, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Bill Crisp Senior Center. A second session will be held Monday, June 15, from 11 a.m. to noon at Senior Center East.
The summer schedule includes classes on creating videos, making flyers, using tablets, TikTok, Google Docs, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and electronic calendars. Additional classes will continue through the year at both locations.
Seniors who want to join should register by calling their local senior center. Bill Crisp Senior Center can be reached at 910-433-1248. Senior Center East is at 910-433-1574.
