Elea Technology has brought on board Vassilis Smoilis as its new Strategic Business Advisor, a move aimed at strengthening the company's push into the food processing sector. Smoilis will focus on driving the wider adoption of Pulsed Electric Field (PEF) technology and deepening relationships with existing and potential customers.
With a background that spans both technical operations and commercial leadership, Smoilis is expected to bridge the gap between engineering innovation and practical client needs. His role will involve working closely with food manufacturers to identify where PEF can improve product quality, extend shelf life, and reduce energy consumption during processing.
PEF technology uses short, high-voltage pulses to disrupt cell membranes in plant-based materials, which can enhance extraction yields, improve texture, and cut down on thermal processing steps. Elea has been a key player in this niche for years, and the company sees Smoilis's appointment as a way to accelerate growth beyond its traditional European markets.
Smoilis has previously held senior positions in food equipment supply and process optimization, giving him a clear view of the operational challenges producers face. In his new role, he will also help shape Elea's service offerings, ensuring that clients receive not just equipment but the know-how to get the most out of it.
The appointment comes at a time when food processors are under pressure to meet sustainability targets while maintaining output. Elea believes that PEF can play a bigger part in that balance, and having a dedicated advisor on the commercial side should help translate that potential into real-world projects.
