Richardson ISD Sets Legislative Goals for Upcoming Session

Richardson ISD officials have outlined a set of legislative priorities they plan to push during the next session, placing district funding, technology policy and regulatory relief at the center of their agenda.

The school board reviewed the proposed priorities during a recent meeting, with trustees pointing to persistent gaps between what the state provides and what the district needs to operate. Officials said those shortfalls force local taxpayers to cover costs that should be handled at the state level.

On technology, district leaders want clearer rules for how schools handle student data, artificial intelligence tools and digital devices in classrooms. They argue that without consistent state guidance, each district is left to build its own patchwork of policies, which creates confusion for families and staff.

The district also aims to reduce what it describes as unnecessary regulatory burdens. According to officials, paperwork and reporting requirements pull time and money away from instruction, and they want lawmakers to streamline those mandates.

Trustees said the priorities will guide their conversations with state representatives once the session begins. They encouraged parents and community members to stay informed about how decisions in Austin could affect local campuses, staffing and classroom resources.
