West Kentucky Tech Center Launches Aviation Maintenance Program

West Kentucky Community and Technical College has introduced a new Aviation Maintenance Technology program aimed at preparing students for careers in aircraft upkeep and repair. The initiative responds to growing demand for certified technicians across the region's aviation and manufacturing sectors.

The program combines classroom instruction with hands-on training in areas such as airframe structures, powerplant systems, electrical wiring, and inspection procedures. Students will work with tools and equipment that mirror what they will encounter in hangars and repair stations, giving them practical experience before they enter the workforce.

School officials said the curriculum was developed with input from industry partners who need skilled workers to fill openings created by retirements and expansion. Graduates will be eligible to pursue certification through the Federal Aviation Administration, a credential employers require for most maintenance roles.

Enrollment is open to recent high school graduates and adults seeking a career change. Financial aid and scholarship options are available for qualifying students. The college plans to hold information sessions for anyone interested in learning more about the program's schedule and application process.

Local economic development leaders welcomed the announcement, noting that aviation maintenance offers stable wages and room for advancement. They said the program strengthens the area's ability to attract aviation related businesses looking for a trained workforce.

College administrators described the launch as part of a broader effort to align academic offerings with regional employment needs. They expect the first cohort to begin coursework in the coming months, with capacity limited to ensure individualized instruction.
