What’s New in Microsoft 365

Microsoft is introducing a fresh set of changes across its 365 suite this month, with notable adjustments hitting Teams, Outlook, SharePoint, and OneDrive. The updates aim to tighten security and streamline how users manage contacts.

One of the biggest shifts involves Teams meeting lobbies. Starting soon, external participants and guests will face stricter entry requirements. Organizers can now enforce a mandatory lobby for anyone outside the organization, even if they were previously allowed direct access. This change is designed to reduce unwanted interruptions and give hosts more control over who joins the conversation. Admins will need to review their meeting policies to avoid surprises when scheduling large calls.

On the Outlook side, the People app is getting a refresh. The update focuses on contact management, making it easier to merge duplicate entries and see a unified view of someone's details across different sources. Users will notice cleaner profiles that pull data from both Exchange and other connected accounts. The goal is to cut down on the time spent hunting for the right email address or phone number.

SharePoint and OneDrive are not being left out. Microsoft is tweaking file sharing permissions to make them more transparent. When you share a document, the system will now clearly show who has access and how they got it, whether through a direct link or a group membership. This should help prevent accidental data leaks in large organizations.

These updates are rolling out gradually over the next few weeks. IT departments should check their admin dashboards for specific timelines and test the new settings before pushing them to all users.
