HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University has chosen Mitchell Croatt to lead its College of Science and Technology as the next dean. Croatt is set to officially step into the role on August 1.
Croatt comes to Southeastern from the University of North Carolina Greensboro, where he served as a professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. He also held the position of associate dean for research and graduate studies within the College of Arts and Sciences. His academic background includes a doctorate in chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley, and a bachelor's degree from Hope College in Michigan.
University officials highlighted Croatt's experience in both research and academic administration. His work has focused on synthetic organic chemistry, and he has secured significant grant funding for research projects. In his new role, Croatt will oversee the college's departments, which include biological sciences, chemistry and physics, computer science, industrial technology, mathematics, and nursing.
Croatt expressed enthusiasm about joining the Southeastern community. He noted the university's strong reputation for preparing students in STEM fields and said he looks forward to building on that foundation. The appointment comes after a national search to fill the position.
