The U.S. Space Force has awarded a $69 million contract to Slingshot Aerospace for the development of artificial intelligence-driven training technology. The deal focuses on creating advanced simulation tools that help operators manage increasingly complex space environments.
Slingshot's technology will be used to build realistic training scenarios for Space Force personnel. The system uses AI to generate dynamic threat simulations, orbital mechanics models, and decision-making exercises. This allows operators to practice responding to satellite collisions, electronic warfare attacks, and other space domain challenges without real-world risks.
The contract runs for five years and includes software development, system integration, and ongoing support. Slingshot will work closely with Space Force training units to ensure the technology meets operational needs. The company already has experience building space situational awareness tools for both military and commercial customers.
Space Force officials say the investment reflects a growing need for realistic, scalable training as the number of satellites in orbit continues to rise. Traditional training methods often rely on static simulations or outdated data. The new AI system can adapt in real time, creating unexpected events that test a operator's ability to think under pressure.
The $69 million figure also highlights the military's increasing focus on software-based solutions rather than hardware-heavy programs. By using AI to improve human performance, the Space Force hopes to maintain an edge in a domain where seconds can determine mission success.
